Chicago and Ann Arbor mentioned in Atlantic CityLab Report on the Arts

Yet another article on the economic importance of the arts.  We say it and say it, but is anyone listening?

Note the chart that indicates that Chicago, while hosting an important arts cluster,  is still less artcentric than its population should suggest.  Ann Arbor is listed as “punching above its weight” in the arts, but I hasten to add that this analysis includes all arts– not just visual arts– music, theater and the like.  My own personal experience in Ann Arbor indicates to me that the town is more supportive of performing arts and music than to visual arts.

Hello Artists

I am working on putting together this blog so that we can all keep in touch about our future activities.  It has been a privilege to get to know you all (at least a little) and I’m looking forward to reading more about what you are doing. In this blog you can share news about your shows, residencies, successes in the studio–really, anything about your art practice that will be of interest to your fellow artists in the region.

The blog is in the developing stages, so I have only the most rudimentary elements right now.  I would like to add a gallery of works by artists, and I will be contacting you by e-mail to get some images.   All artists opting into this blog will be listed as “authors” and you may post at will.  If you are interested in dipping your toes into the blogosphere, this is an opportunity!
